LAKEWOOD, Colo. — With Colorado’s working lands facing growing pressures from development and changing ownership, succession planning and effective grazing management are more important than ever. To support landowners in Northeast Colorado, the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust (CCALT) is hosting a Succession Planning and Grazing Management Workshop:

  • Date and Time: Wednesday, October 1 from 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Location: West Greeley Conservation District Office

This free, interactive workshop brings together leading experts to equip landowners with practical tools and insights for long-term land stewardship. The workshop will feature:

  • Succession Planning Strategies with Jeffery Tranel of CSU Extension, offering practical guidance for agricultural families navigating generational transitions and long-term planning.
  • Grazing Management Techniques with Anna Shadbolt from CSU AgNext, focused on optimizing pasture health and livestock production.
  • Overview of Conservation Easements and their role in protecting agricultural land while aligning with family and business priorities.
  • Resource Fair with local partners providing information and support to help landowners advance their agricultural and conservation objectives.

“This workshop is a valuable opportunity to bring essential resources and knowledge directly to landowners across the Eastern Plains,” says Girija Kulkarni, Eastern Colorado Additive Conservation Manager and CCALT REPI Project Lead. “By connecting succession planning with grazing management and conservation tools, we can help ensure these working landscapes remain productive, resilient, and protected for generations to come.”

Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to guide both succession planning and grazing management — ensuring their ranches and farms remain productive, resilient, and secure for future generations.

This expert-led workshop is made possible through funds from the Department of Defense Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) Program, which helps protect lands near military installations by funding projects that conserve critical landscapes and support sustainable agricultural practices.

This event is free to attend, and landowners in Northeast Colorado are encouraged to join and take advantage of this unique opportunity.
