30 Years, 30 People and Moments in Conservation

One Full Generation of Conservation Success
30th Anniversary StoryMap Summary
Did you know that 30 years typically marks the passing of one generation of time? This StoryMap guides you through the moments and contributions so many visionaries have made to CCALT in the organization’s first 30 years. We explore people, places, and accomplishments, past and present, that exemplify the qualities CCALT has become known for:
Vision, Support, Leader, Trust, Impact, Model, and Community.
Colorado’s farm and ranch families are the humble heroes that steward land, water, and food resources every day. We are proud of our continuing conservation partnerships with these families across Colorado, as they conserve and steward working landscapes that improve every Coloradan’s quality of life.
Additions to this StoryMap will be made once or twice weekly beginning Earth Day 2025 until our 2025 Forever Colorado BBQ on August 9. Follow us on social media for the latest StoryMap announcements or bookmark this page and check the page weekly!
Honoring our Roots
Firsts all around
1995 – The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), the nation’s first livestock industry association, pioneered a new approach to private land conservation by establishing the first land trust in the country solely dedicated to agricultural lands.

A UNIQUE APPROACH TO CONSERVATION
1995 – CCALT’s unique conservation model puts people first with the belief that taking care of people lets them take care of the land. This is especially true for land stewards who maintain active working landscapes that nourish us and endow our state with a Western way of life that enriches us all.
