Conservation of Kinnison Ranch Helps Maintain Agricultural Heritage, Scenic Landscape, and Wildlife Habitat in Weld County

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust (CCALT) is proud to collaborate with Chevron and the Kinnison Family for a conservation easement that will conserve nearly 2,000 acres between the 646-acre Sligo Ranch (also referred to as Kinnison East Ranch) and 1,269 acres of the Crow Creek Ranch (also referred to as Kinnison West Ranch), located in Weld County.
The Kinnison family represent third and fourth generations of their family to manage and steward the land in Weld County. Their integrated cow/calf operation is evidence of their legacy and heritage in the region, and the land continues to remain at the center of their family history.
“We are excited to collaborate with CCALT and Chevron on this conservation easement, further expanding our conserved acreage and protecting valuable landscapes for future generations,” said landowner Andrea Kinnison. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with folks who are open, honest, and committed to the shared goal of conserving these important lands for years to come.”
Located just miles southwest of Grover, the ranch is surrounded by a patchwork of federal, state, and private land, including large patches of the Pawnee National Grasslands. To date, CCALT has conserved 36,192 acres in Weld County, the majority of which are in the northeastern part of the county around the towns of Grover and Briggsdale.
“Working with two generations of the Kinnison family to conserve Crow Creek Ranch and Sligo Ranch is a privilege for CCALT. We are excited to support the Kinnison family’s conservation goals and to help conserve these important lands in northeastern Colorado through our work with Chevron,” said Erik L. Glenn, CCALT’s Chief Executive Officer. “This project builds on CCALT’s conservation work in the eastern plains and helps an additional 1,900 acres of Weld County’s working ranchlands remain working and available for future generations of the Kinnison family.”
Working in collaboration with Chevon and their work with wildlife conservation and land stewardship, CCALT and the Kinnison family can conserve this land for future generations.
“Conserving working lands for future generations takes collaboration and a shared commitment to stewardship,” said Naomi Woodard, Director of Colorado Operations for Chevron. “The dedication of landowners and conservation organizations like the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust helps protect these landscapes. Through our wildlife conservation program, Chevron is committed to supporting efforts that conserve wildlife habitat, preserve agricultural heritage and strengthen the communities where we operate.”
We are grateful to the Kinnison Family for their vision and generosity in conserving the Kinnison Ranch. By doing so, the landscape will remain intact and available for agricultural use, wildlife habitat, and scenic value. CCALT is also grateful to Chevron for their generosity in supporting working lands and wildlife conservation.
